One hundred years ago, Grazia Deledda became the first and only Italian author to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, “for her idealistically inspired writings”. Although born in Sardinia, she had strong connections to the Romagna, where she spent many long summers, and especially to the town of Cervia, which made her an honorary citizen. “I have lived with the winds, the woods, and the mountains”, she said in her Nobel Prize acceptance speech. “For days, months and years, I have watched the slow unfolding of clouds across the Sardinian sky”. And now, Paolo Fresu’s trumpet and Mariangela Gualtieri’s words will gaze upon this boundless horizon of poetry and beauty to investigate Deledda’s portrayal of the Sardinian landscape, the grande aperto, with its dunes, sky, wind, sea and flocks of sheep.
