Many of us look in the mirror and dislike what we see. Many of us wish we could use a magic filter that can make us look as beautiful as our social media stars. Many of us feel “different” and experience rejection and exclusion. Fabio Canino’s ironic and insightful reinterpretation of Andersen’s famous fairy tale is dedicated to these people. In a world dominated by aesthetic perfection, where one can be bullied for being slightly overweight, this is a hymn to inclusivity, self-acceptance and acceptance of others. It is a confidence boost for those who feel like ugly ducklings and know they will never turn into beautiful swans. It teaches them not to give up, because true beauty needs no filters, no “Likes”, no thumbs-up.
