Paolo Nori makes it clear: there is no objective definition of “freedom”, nor a formula that can make us share an understanding of this concept, which has awakened consciences, stirred peoples and shaped eras becoming part of everyone’s life. Accompanied by Nidi’s music, and drawing narrative inspiration from Russian literature, Nori entwines the lives of two extraordinary writers with the epic history of his home city, Parma, which resisted the fascists led by Italo Balbo in 1922. Daniil Kharms, an exceptional absurdist poet and dramatist who died in a psychiatric ward under Stalin, and Iosif Brodsky, the poet who was awarded the Nobel Prize after persecution and exile from the USSR, are the beacons that Nori chooses to try, while immediately declaring failure, to share at least “his” own idea of freedom.
