In this second monologue, Nori steps in and out of himself with the genuine depth that can only be achieved through somewhat drunken confessions, probing philosophical heights inaccessible to the fully sober. Recalling the two occasions on which he almost died, he delves into the most intimate reasons why he chose to write. Subjecting himself to the weighty scrutiny of the great Russian authors who have always accompanied him, he thinks aloud, recaps his life, jokes about death and sings. He even plays the trumpet, if he feels like it. When you try to pinpoint the ultimate meaning of your existence, non-linear paths inevitably emerge. In this process, the writer becomes a character, and the character resists the author. All of this takes place within the context of a perpetual, intimate and subtle “despair”.
