1791 was the year that saw the untimely end of Mozart’s extraordinary artistic career. It was a fateful yet extremely fruitful year, brimming with commissions and masterpieces. He was working on The Magic Flute when a mysterious patron commissioned him the Requiem. However, work on the Singspiel was interrupted by La clemenza di Tito, said to have been composed in just 18 days for the coronation of the King of Bohemia. Mozart’s final catalogue also includes works such as Ave Verum Corpus, the Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, and the Adagio in C major for glass harmonica. This hectic and dramatic year, with its astonishing explosion of beauty, is the focus of the 15th edition of the Autumn Trilogy.
This trilogy relies entirely on the experience and mastery of Ottavio Dantone, as well as the creative rigour of Chiara Muti, who is concerned with exploring the dilemma of a weak leader in Clemenza, as well as devising the wholly original dramaturgy of L’ultimo incanto. Drawing inspiration directly from the moods and music of Mozart’s final creative outburst, Muti has crafted a visionary narrative, weaving arias, dialogues, and letters together to create a compelling portrait of Mozart’s life. Without ignoring the miracle of the Requiem.
In keeping with the Trilogy’s tradition of a veritable ‘opera workshop’, our tried-and-tested theatrical machine will once again dismantle and reassemble different scenes on the same stage night after night, offering unique, unmissable, full immersion in Mozart’s extreme, sublime artistry.
