The Basilica of Santa Maria in Porto, built in the 16th century, was modified in the second half of the 18th century by architect Camillo Morigia, who decorated the upper part of the sumptuous Baroque façade in Neoclassical style.
The solemn and imposing interior is divided into a nave and two aisles and its wide transept are covered by a high dome. On the left side of the transept, a marble bas-relief from the 11th or 12th century probably of Venetian origin depicts the Virgin Mary in a prayerful attitude. This image is also known as “Greek Madonna” because according to legend it had miraculously arrived in Ravenna from Constantinople.
