The collaboration between the Estonian choir Vox Clamantis and their renowned compatriot, composer Arvo Pärt, dates back at least 25 years. To celebrate Pärt’s 90th birthday, the ensemble has released the album And I Heard a Voice, which showcases their shared passion for both ancient Gregorian chant and contemporary music. The album also features a variety of liturgies, including the Catholic Seven Antiphons to the Magnificat and the Prayer to the Holy Trinity dedicated to the Russian Orthodox nun Varvara. However, the primary focus is on Lutheran devotion: the closing track, which gives the concert its name, was conceived by Pärt in memory of Archbishop Konrad Veem and is based on verses from the Book of Revelation describing the departed as catching their breath from their earthly labours in eternal life.
