This production, based on the graphic novel adaptation of the second volume in Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan Quartet, features two icons of Italian experimental theatre, Lagani and Menni, playing Lila and Lenù. Now grown up, the two friends face daunting new challenges: Lila is struggling with an unhappy, premature marriage, while Lenù is focusing on her studies — her only opportunity for social redemption. Directed by De Angelis, the play centres on the intricate tapestry woven around the two protagonists. The story unfolds before our eyes as a poetic accumulation of the landscapes and characters as imagined by artist Mara Cerri. Magically emerging from the pages of a comic strip, these characters come to life in a tale that celebrates friendship, liberation from prejudice and the power of imagination.
