Three left-footed players who have written the history of football; three ‘angels with dirty faces’ whose lives are like novels. In La Milonga del fútbol, Federico Buffa, the journalist who reinvented the narrative of sport, takes us on a journey through the legend of the Albiceleste with Omar Sivori, Diego Armando Maradona and Lionel Messi, three champions born a quarter of a century apart but linked by the common thread of football and social circumstances: in the 1950s, Sivori enchanted the Argentina of the economic boom; in the 1980s, Maradona, nicknamed ‘El pibe de oro’, the greatest footballer of all time, became the idol of a nation emerging from recession and the Videla dictatorship; and finally Messi, the enfant prodige of contemporary football, the national hero of an Argentina that has emerged from bankruptcy to become one of the world’s leading economies.
