As the prestigious magazine Songlines aptly summarises, Davide Ambrogio has achieved a “reconnection” between the past and the present. The Calabrian multi-instrumentalist is described as a leading figure in Italian roots music whose latest album, Mater Nullius, is structured as a 14-step Way of the Cross, exploring the alienating loss of connection with the memory of the land experienced by contemporary man. This journey through sound and anthropology, enriched by evocative elements, will be performed beneath the isolated grandeur of the medieval Tower of Fornione, providing an ideal setting in which to experience Ambrogio’s evocative power and flamboyant vision. In his music, dialect becomes an unsettling, screaming language that carves out its own space amidst tumbling percussion and piercing strings.
