Francesca da Rimini, Dido, Cleopatra, Helen of Troy — four women, from different periods in time, with different stories of passionate love but a common lot: being placed in Dante’s Hell. Their stories will be staged though Canto V, through the voices Virgil, Euripides, Shakespeare and Purcell gave them. Is it a sin to love too much and die for love? Have these women not experienced the sort of Love that “moves the sun and the other stars”?
