music Giuseppe Verdi, Gioachino Rossini, Giacomo Puccini, Giuseppe Martucci, Ottorino Respighi, Tomaso Albinoni

“Every single note creates a dialogue between the instruments; every single phrase is a tribute to the art of interpretation”. Since Muti says so, there is no doubt about the quality of the transcriptions and arrangements that entrust the most beloved works in the Italian repertoire to the extraordinary brass/percussion ensemble comprising musicians from the most prestigious Vienna and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras. Muti himself led the ensemble in recording these pieces in the 17th-century Church of San Romualdo in Ravenna, in tribute to Italy and its music. The programme features Albinoni’s controversial Adagio, the glories of Italian opera by Rossini, Verdi and Puccini, and the symphonic works of early 20th-century composers Martucci and Respighi, two of Muti’s favourites who deserve greater recognition.
