Massimo Recalcati
La tentazione del muro

Nel nostro tempo il simbolo del muro è tornato tragicamente alla ribalta.
Come è possibile leggere l’esperienza del confine senza che questo si trasformi in muro?
Come è possibile pensare l’identità senza escludere la differenza?

Tribute to Astor Piazzolla Modern Tango Quintet & Gary Burton
on the fortieth anniversary of the historic concert at Ravenna Jazz 1986

in collaboration with Ravenna Jazz

Massimo Recalcati often uses art to illustrate psychoanalytic concepts. The tango, with its tension between bodies, tight embraces and passionate melancholy, can be seen as a representation of the desire that propels life. Here, he combines psychoanalysis with music to offer an interpretation of the tango as a blend of nostalgia and vitality — a poetic foundation akin to the music of Astor Piazzolla, the father of “nuevo tango”, who revolutionised the tradition by incorporating jazz and classical elements. In this context, desire does not conform to predefined forms, but seeks new expression, transforming passion into art. This is precisely what the great Argentinian composer demonstrated in a historic concert in Ravenna forty years ago.
