The tide of pulsating bodies that Hofesh Shechter stages in Contemporary Dance is a slap of energy, a vibration that grabs the stomach. Such is the hypnotic stylistic code that has always characterised the Israeli choreographer, who has been based in England for twenty years but works with companies all over the world. This time, however, Hofesh is working with his own Shechter II—a group of eight emerging dancers from across the globe, aged 18-25. They will “re-incarnate” Shechter’s original production, created for Göteborgs Operans Danskompani in 2019, into a different, new chapter, as a proof that his dance is a magma that takes hold of you, fishing deep within, renewing itself, communicating with all genres and cultures without giving up its electrifying, splintering matrices. In a word: contemporary.
