John Cage and Franco Battiato: two fundamental figures in the music of our time, and the protagonists of Roberto Masotti’s last books. The great Ravenna-born photographer, who passed away a few weeks ago, had portrayed them over the years along many other leading figures in contemporary music history. For each of them, Masotti had gathered a precious portfolio—shots that captured the very essence of their personality and art. Both books—published by Seipersei, who had already printed Masotti’s book dedicated to Keith Jarrett—bear witness to a variegated project, but also to the wealth of interests and the type of approach the author had adopted since the beginning of his extraordinary story as a “music photographer” in the early 1970s: collaborative, participatory and intensely creative.
