The Sergio Bernal Dance Company “speaks” all the languages of traditional Spanish dance, infusing them with a contemporary twist. Now it is back in Ravenna with its founder, Sergio Bernal, the Madrid-born artist with ice-blue eyes and fire in his veins, the most beloved Spanish dancer among Italians. The programme features two choreographies by Rafael Aguilar: Rango, inspired by García Lorca’s play The House of Bernarda Alba, and Boléro, widely considered the most electrifying version of Ravel’s famous ballet. Bernal’s unique talent as both bailarín and bailaor (classical and flamenco dancer), amid rustling dresses and percussive heel work, explodes in Suite Flamenca, completing the triptych with vigorous Andalusian dance in an intimate dialogue between the magnetic Bernal and his musicians.
