Ludwig van Beethoven
Symphony No. 5 in C minor Op. 67

From the “Representation of Chaos” in Haydn’s Creation to the monumental architecture of Beethoven’s Symphony no.5, music demonstrates that sound, like humans, always strives towards form, order, even Fate. Even Beethoven’s distinctive four-note motif (“fate knocking at the door”) seems to herald a world where rigorous structure and emotional momentum coexist, and where the disorder of feelings and the geometry of thought are in dialectic relationship. For its part, Chopin’s pianism sees virtuosity and restlessness tinged with folk reminiscences. This synthesis, especially evident in the Piano Concerto no. 1, will be enhanced by the young piano talent Arsenii Moon, winner of both the Busoni and Benedetti Michelangeli prizes in 2023. The Concerto was Chopin’s “farewell” performance before leaving Poland forever.
