Fresh from the celebration of its 30th birthday, this orchestra of violins, violas, cellos, double basses, clarinets and cimbaloms feels free to alternate, in acrobatic performances, such composers as Liszt, Bartók, Kodály, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Strauss with traditional Hungarian and Gypsy songs, in line with the best Gypsy tradition. Born in 1985, when a crowd of musicians gathered at Sándor Járóka’s funeral to pay their last tribute to the great violinist, the orchestra has performed on worldwide stages ever since. Tonight’s event at the Alighieri is the virtuosos’ last date in Ravenna, after three days spent wandering the streets in various formations, meeting their audience on different corners of the old town.
