{"id":9439,"date":"2018-05-17T17:01:38","date_gmt":"2018-05-17T15:01:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/?p=9439"},"modified":"2018-05-31T11:48:33","modified_gmt":"2018-05-31T09:48:33","slug":"vespers-at-san-vitale-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/en\/vespers-at-san-vitale-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Vespers at San Vitale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Ravenna Festival pays homage to the city\u2019s unique heritage \u2013 a wealth of art, music, and faith \u2013 thanks to the collaboration with the Opera di Religione of the Arcidiocesi di Ravenna-Cervia. The most beloved Byzantine basilica \u2013 one of the eights monuments of Ravenna included in the UNESCO World Heritage site \u2013 hosts sacred music concerts, day after day, with new productions, programmes selected through an international call for proposals, and collaborations with local artists and groups: an invaluable experience of beauty, that the Festival offers to the visitors at the symbolic admission fee of 1 euro.<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Festival has turned the extraordinary local heritage into the keystone of its own identity, and \u2013 for the third year in a row \u2013 pays a tribute to the beauty and the history held within the walls of San Vitale. The rich programme of daily concerts at 7 pm features artists selected through an international call for proposals \u2013 with over 60 applications coming from all around Italy, as well as from Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, United States\u2026 \u2013 and ties to the programme of the 29th edition of the Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Vespers at San Vitale <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/en\/events\/hermann\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #890e32;\"><strong>Hermann<\/strong><\/span><\/a> (June 1, 3 to 6), a cantata for countertenor, three bass viols, cornett, and narrator commissioned to composer Paolo Baioni and inspired by the singular life led by monk Hermann the Cripple. Tullia Melandri\u2019s fortepiano concert follows \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/en\/events\/tullia-melandri\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #890e32;\"><strong>Rediscovering Schumann\u2019s Favourite Sound<\/strong><\/span><\/a> (June 2) \u2013 the first of two events to be held at the Refectory Hall of the National Museum. Back to the Basilica with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/en\/events\/sacri-ottoni\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #890e32;\"><strong>Sacred Brass<\/strong><\/span><\/a> (June 7 to 10), presented by Romagna Brass and dedicated to Giovanni Gabrieli, the most important composer of the 16th-century Venetian School. The Duo Serenissima \u2013 soprano and lute from the Netherlands \u2013 will perform in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/en\/events\/duo-serenissima-11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #890e32;\"><strong>The Intimate Diva<\/strong><\/span><\/a> (June 11 to 15) and rediscover the life (and music) of two deeply cultured and creative 17th-century nuns; the Duo will also play in the Refectory for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/en\/events\/duo-serenissima-17\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #890e32;\"><strong>Tribute to Giulio Caccini<\/strong><\/span><\/a> four centuries after his death (June 17). The Coro dell\u2019Associazione Consorti Dipendenti del Ministero degli Affari Esteri presents <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/en\/events\/stabat-mater-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #890e32;\"><strong>Stabat Mater by Girolamo Abos<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, a suggestive score from the 18th century Naples (June 16). David Brutti and Nicola Lamon, cornett and organ respectively, explore the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/en\/events\/seicento-stravagante\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #890e32;\"><strong>Eccentric XVII Century<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, a geographic and historic itinerary through the poetics of the marvellous (June 18 to 20). The duo La DiStileria \u2013 mezzosoprano and organ \u2013 takes us to the second half of the 19th century with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/en\/events\/omaggio-a-rheinberger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #890e32;\"><strong>A Tribute to Rheinberger<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, mostly unknown today but a prolific and versatile musician (June 21 and 22). Another couple for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/en\/events\/harmonia-ludens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #890e32;\"><strong>Bachian Dialogues<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, famous and varied scores by Bach transcripted for violin and cello (June 23 and 27). The Choir of the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali \u201cGiuseppe Verdi\u201d of Ravenna \u2013 a key-player in the cultural and musical development of the city \u2013 presents <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/en\/events\/liszt-e-part-sacre-consonanze\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #890e32;\"><strong>Liszt and P\u00e4rt, Sacred Consonances<\/strong><\/span><\/a> (June 24-26), while the Ensemble La Dafne will led the audience to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/en\/events\/candia-crocevia-di-culture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #890e32;\"><strong>Candia, a Crossroads of Cultures<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the city capital of Crete which was a meeting point between musical cultures in the 16th and 17th centuries (June 28 to 30).
