These new dates are the Festival\u2019s answer to the numerous bookings, coming from \u00a0other countries as well: while waiting for the opening of the pre-sale for single and carnet tickets on Monday, September 18, groups of opera-lovers from France, UK, Finland, Israel, the Netherlands, Germany have already chosen the Alighieri Theatre and the city of Ravenna for a three-day journey through Italian opera.<\/p>\n<p>The titles of the 2017 Trilogy marked the twilight of an era and the dawn of a new age: at the end of the XIX century the Italian melodrama was brought to new life, during those very years when the wish for modernity\u00a0threw the seed of so much art and music, which would be later destined to flower at the heart of the 20th century and whose fruits we still harvest today. In 1890 Mascagni conquered the theatres with the expressive immediacy of his\u00a0<em>Cavalleria rusticana<\/em>, imposing \u201cRealism\u201d in music; two years later Leoncavallo transfigured a real-life incident into the grim shades of a relentless passion: the so-called \u201cparola scenica\u201d (stage word) exploded then, taking upon its shoulders the responsibility\u00a0of throwing new light on a century-old tradition. That same light shines on the tragic heroism of Puccini&#8217;s\u00a0Tosca, whose dramaturgical\u00a0strength and sophisticated score opened the century.<\/p>\n<p>The Festival presents these three operas on the same stage, in an\u00a0operatic\u00a0\u201ctour de force\u201d that turns the Alighieri Theatre in an unremitting and surprising production machine.
