The memory of such a crucial event provides a <em>fil rouge<\/em> between musical and expressive revolutions, but the Festival will also feature a section dedicated to Dante, concerts in the Byzantine basilicas, and a tribute to India. Once again <strong>Riccardo Muti<\/strong> and his <strong>Cherubini Youth Orchestra<\/strong> will be protagonists of the <strong><em>Roads of Friendship<\/em><\/strong> project, which in 2017 celebrates 20 years of unforgettable concerts dedicated to the friendship among peoples in cities marked by history. Besides great symphonic music (feat. conductors such as Temirkanov, Bychkov, and soloists Giovanni Sollima and Anne-Sophie Mutter) and dance (<strong>Olivier Dubois<\/strong>, <strong>Ballet Nacional de Cuba<\/strong>\u2026), the programme includes important events where music and the great B&amp;W cinema meet. The Festival will come back in November with a new<strong><em> Autumn Trilogy<\/em> <\/strong>(Nov 17-23), \u201cOn the verge of the XX century\u201d, showcasing <strong>\u201cCavalleria rusticana\u201d<\/strong>, <strong>\u201cPagliacci\u201d<\/strong>, <strong>\u201cTosca\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Of the October Revolution, the 2017 Festival celebrates the creative energies able to transform all the artistic languages, without forgetting those who, like Shostakovich, were victims of Stalin\u2019s terror. The \u201cRussian\u201d section, where the eye is caught by the Italian premiere of Aleksei Kruchonykh\u2019s Futurist opera <strong>\u201cVictory over the Sun\u201d<\/strong> with Matiushin\u2019s music and Kazimir S. Malevich\u2019s set and costumes, also features <strong>Yuri Temirkanov<\/strong> and <strong>Semyon Bychkov<\/strong> on the podium of the <strong>St. Petersburg Philharmonic<\/strong> and the <strong>Munich Philharmonic<\/strong> respectively. The symphony programme is completed by <strong>Leonard Slatkin<\/strong>, who will lead the <strong>Orchestre National de Lyon<\/strong> and the extraordinary <strong>Anne-Sophie Mutter<\/strong> in a concert including a tribute to Tarkovskij,\u00a0<strong>Juraj Valcuha<\/strong> with the <strong>Orchestra Nazionale RAI<\/strong> and soloist <strong>David Fray<\/strong>, and a concert dedicated to Haydn featuring <strong>Giovanni Sollima<\/strong> and <strong>Accademia Bizantina<\/strong> led by <strong>Ottavio Dantone<\/strong>. The <strong><em>Passage to India<\/em><\/strong> includes the three-day <strong>Darbar Festival<\/strong> and <strong>Anoushka Shankar<\/strong>\u2019s concert, as well as <strong>Shobana Jeyasingh<\/strong>\u2019s choreographies; while the section <strong><em>Music and Cinema<\/em><\/strong> will see R. Wiene\u2019s 1920 <strong>\u201cThe Cabinet of Dr Caligari\u201d<\/strong>, C. T. Dreyer\u2019s 1928 <strong>\u201cLa passion de Jeanne d\u2019Arc\u201d<\/strong>, and Charlie Chaplin\u2019s 1925 <strong>\u201cGold Rush\u201d<\/strong> accompanied by live music \u2013 by Edison Studio, Orlando Consort, and the Cherubini Orchestra led by Timothy Brock respectively. Two homages to Arcangelo Corelli\u2019s violin sonatas, within the section <strong><em>Revolutions in Music<\/em><\/strong>, and a tribute to Monteverdi 450 years after his birth are part of the rich programme of concerts in the precious basilicas, that the Festival keeps \u201cinhabiting\u201d 20 years after the acknowledgement of 8 early-Christian and Byzantine monuments in Ravenna as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Spirituality, music, and mosaics come together thanks to events ranging from the sound of the Protestant North of Hannu Norjanen\u2019s <strong>Cantores Minores<\/strong> to the <strong>Orthodox Choir of Moscow Patriarchate<\/strong> led by Anatolkij Grindenko.
