XI, v. 50). The program opens on May 21 with a concert by Anne-Sophie Mutter and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Vasily Petrenko, and continues until July 11. The Franciscan thread also runs through the concert in which Riccardo Muti conducts Hindemith\u2019s <em>Nobilissima visione<\/em>, followed by a conversation with Massimo Cacciari on the influence of Saint Francis on Dante and Giotto; Muti will also appear on June 1 and 2, leading choir singers from across Italy in two days of lessons and rehearsals for the second edition of <em>Cantare amantis est<\/em>. Guests include Kent Nagano, Nicola Piovani and Toni Servillo, the M\u00fcnchener Kammerorchester with Enrico Onofri, Stefano Bollani, Enrico Rava, Pat Metheny, Jeff Mills, Emma Nolde, Sadeck Berrabah, Yoann Bourgeois\u2026 More than one hundred performances and over one thousand artists will take part in Ravenna Festival 2026, made possible by the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Municipality of Ravenna, the main partner Eni, and the sponsors.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\/en\/events\/?qy=2026\">&gt; DISCOVER ALL THE EVENTS<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Cum tucte le tue creature (With all Your creatures)<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nIf Giotto\u2019s frescoes on the life of Saint Francis inspired Hindemith\u2019s <em>Nobilissima visione<\/em> \u2013 conducted by <strong>Riccardo Muti<\/strong> with the <strong>Cherubini Orchestra<\/strong> before his conversation with <strong>Massimo Cacciari<\/strong> \u2013 the words of Saint Augustine, <strong><em>Cantare amantis est<\/em><\/strong>, shape the open call for choir singers of all ages and backgrounds, invited to two days of lessons and rehearsals with Muti. Speaking of singing, <strong>Ensemble Micrologus<\/strong> offers a musical reconstruction of the <em>Canticle of the Creatures<\/em> in the Basilica of San Francesco, which also hosts the premiere of <strong><em>Il Santo folle<\/em><\/strong>, by <strong>Guido Barbieri<\/strong> and <strong>Marcello Fera<\/strong> on Francis\u2019s encounter with the Sultan, and a conversation with medieval historian <strong>Franco Cardini<\/strong> accompanied by <strong>laReverdie<\/strong>. Francis\u2019s belief that a craft is not only an economic resource but also an inner one resonates with <strong><em>OperaPaese per Ravenna<\/em><\/strong> by <strong>Giorgio Battistelli<\/strong>, a bold musical-theatre project placing local artisans at centre stage. Saint Francis is recalled as the creator of the Nativity scene tradition in the two-part programme <strong><em>From Greccio to the Neapolitan Nativity Scene<\/em><\/strong>, also paying tribute to Roberto De Simone. Francis\u2019s thought lies at the heart of <strong><em>Nessun cielo \u00e8 senza luce<\/em><\/strong>, an audio-visual performance by <strong>Luca Maria Baldini<\/strong> and <strong>Salvatore Insana<\/strong>, as well as the talk along the <em>Viae Sancti Romualdi<\/em>. Francis\u2019s famous encounter with the Wolf of Gubbio inspires the <strong><em>Opera da quartiere<\/em><\/strong> by Orchestra La Corelli in Ravenna\u2019s neighbourhoods, while harmonious coexistence with creation is celebrated by the eco-sustainable events of <strong><em>Romagna in fiore<\/em><\/strong> (May 1\u201324).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Literatures, Explorations<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nIf Sophocles guides the dialogue with the Archaeological Site of Pompeii through a \u201crevived\u201d <strong><em>Antigone<\/em><\/strong>, the Grande Teatro di Lido Adriano explores the Chinese classic <strong><em>Viaggio in Occidente<\/em><\/strong>. Fanny &amp; Alexander engage with Elena Ferrante\u2019s <strong><em>Storia del nuovo cognome<\/em><\/strong>, while Elena Bucci and Paolo Baioni present <strong><em>La bambina inglese<\/em><\/strong>, dedicated to Lord Byron\u2019s daughter. It is the vocation of <strong><em>Trebbo in musica<\/em><\/strong> in Cervia-Milano Marittima to unite music and words: for its seventh edition, the special program draws inspiration from Stefano Benni (<em>La misteriosa scomparsa di W<\/em> performed by <strong>Ambra Angiolini<\/strong>), Truman Capote in podcaster <strong>Pablo Trincia<\/strong>\u2019s reinterpretation of the non-fiction novel <em>In Cold Blood<\/em>, Pier Paolo Pasolini as seen by <strong>Massimo Zamboni<\/strong> of CCCP, Russian literature with Paolo Nori, Grazia Deledda in the tribute by <strong>Paolo Fresu<\/strong> and <strong>Mariangela Gualtieri<\/strong>, and Andersen with <em>Il brutto anatroccolo<\/em> featuring <strong>Fabio Canino<\/strong>. The narrative thread continues with <strong>Jacopo Veneziani<\/strong> and <em>L\u2019enigma del Mausoleo di Teodorico<\/em>, explorer <strong>Alex Bellini<\/strong>, and the testimony of Fra Alberto Pari from the <strong>Magnificat Institute in Jerusalem<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Music<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nFor the opening concert with the <strong>Royal Philharmonic Orchestra<\/strong> conducted by <strong>Vasily Petrenko<\/strong>, <strong>Anne-Sophie Mutter<\/strong> chooses Beethoven, with the program completed by Mahler\u2019s Symphony No. 5. <strong>Riccardo Muti<\/strong> leads his <strong>Cherubini Orchestra<\/strong> in two concerts: one dedicated to <em>Nobilissima visione<\/em>, followed by a conversation with <strong>Massimo Cacciari<\/strong>, and another featuring music by Verdi, De Falla, and Ravel. An all-Italian program shapes Muti\u2019s collaboration with <strong>The Philharmonic Brass<\/strong>. The symphonic section also welcomes the return of <strong>Kent Nagano<\/strong>, on the podium of the Cherubini for Beethoven and Vivaldi \u2018rewritten\u2019 by composer Aziza Sadikova. Led by <strong>Enrico Onofri<\/strong>, the <strong>M\u00fcnchener Kammerorchester<\/strong> performs in two concerts, one with pianist <strong>Arsenii Moon<\/strong> playing Chopin. The <strong>ArteMandoline Baroque Ensemble<\/strong> explores art and folk music between Naples and Spain, while violinist <strong>Giuseppe Gibboni<\/strong> and pianist <strong>Pietro Fresa<\/strong> tackle Beethoven and Prokof\u2019ev. The <strong>Alinde Quintet<\/strong> from the Czech Republic features an all-wind line-up. The Cherubini Orchestra also performs under <strong>Nicola Piovani<\/strong> in his <strong><em>Padre Cicogna<\/em><\/strong>, based on a poem by De Filippo with <strong>Toni Servillo <\/strong>as the narrator; <strong>Daniele di Bonaventura<\/strong> for a tribute to Ravenna Jazz 1986 (preceded by a talk with psychoanalyst <strong>Massimo Recalcati<\/strong>); and <strong>Thiago Tiberio<\/strong> for <strong><em>Fantasia in Concert Live to Film<\/em><\/strong>. Cinema meets live music as well in screenings of Murnau\u2019s <strong><em>The Last Laugh<\/em><\/strong> (1924) and Elvira Notari\u2019s <strong><em>\u00c8 piccerella<\/em><\/strong> (1922). The rich program at the Rocca includes jazz events with <em>Stefano Bollani All Stars<\/em>, <strong>Pat Metheny<\/strong> and, in a single evening, <strong>Matteo Mancuso<\/strong> and <strong>Nik West<\/strong>; jazz also travels beyond the city, to Brisighella with the <strong>New Orleans Jazz Orchestra<\/strong> and to Russi with the <strong>Glenn Miller Orchestra<\/strong> and <strong>Uli Plettendorff<\/strong> for <em>Swing Forever<\/em>. Palazzo San Giacomo also hosts <strong><em>Rap-Union<\/em><\/strong> in collaboration with the underground hip hop festival Under Fest. Back at the Rocca, appearances include Portuguese singer-songwriter <strong>Dulce Pontes<\/strong> and the San Francisco vocal ensemble<strong>\u00a0Chanticleer<\/strong>. At the Pavaglione in Lugo, another two concerts alongside <em>Padre Cicogna<\/em>: <strong>Emma Nolde<\/strong>\u2019s with <strong>Orchestra La Corelli<\/strong>, and Detroit techno legend <strong>Jeff Mills<\/strong>\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>In the Basilicas<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nAlongside the events dedicated to Saint Francis in the church that bears his name, the Festival once again visits the UNESCO-listed Byzantine basilicas. At Sant\u2019Apollinare in Classe, the Estonian <strong>Vox Clamantis<\/strong>, a leading ensemble for Arvo P\u00e4rt, and <strong>Le Po\u00e8me Harmonique<\/strong>. At San Vitale, <strong>La Cappella Neapolitana<\/strong>, presenting the first part of the programme <em>Da Greccio al presepe napoletano<\/em> (completed at the Alighieri with <strong><em>Cantata dei pastori<\/em><\/strong> by and with <strong>Peppe Barra<\/strong>), and the <strong>Chamber Choir of the Ljubljana Conservatoire<\/strong>. The latter, along with Vox Clamantis, chamber choir Vikra and Ravenna\u2019s Cappella Musicale di San Francesco, also takes part in <strong><em>In templo Domini<\/em><\/strong>, the traditional Sunday liturgies.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>In Residence<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nArtists in residence at the Festival include pianist <strong>Filippo Gorini<\/strong>, with recitals, masterclasses and events in care and community facilities; <strong>Giovanna Baviera<\/strong> with <em>Soloindue<\/em>, a tribute to the forgotten art of \u2018singing with the viola\u2019, alongside two encounters in dialogue with writer <strong>Matteo Cavezzali<\/strong> and lawyer-activist <strong>Cathy La Torre<\/strong>; and the chamber choir <strong>Vikra<\/strong> led by <strong>Petra Grassi<\/strong>, presenting songs from a wide range of traditions and geographical backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>A Festival that Dances<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nAlongside <em>Murmuration Level2<\/em> by visionary choreographer <strong>Sadeck Berrabah<\/strong>, the dance section features <em>The Infinite Approach<\/em> by <strong>Yoann Bourgeois<\/strong> \u2013 a dramaturgy of suspensions, falls and new beginnings in search of the perfect circus act; an evening with the <strong>Sergio Bernal Dance Company<\/strong> and the choreographies <em>Rango<\/em> and <em>Bol\u00e9ro<\/em> by Rafael Aguilar; the <strong>gruppo nanou<\/strong> with <em>goldroom<\/em>, the second chapter of the <em>Overlook Hotel<\/em> project; and the closing gala of the Youth American Grand Prix (YAGP) masterclasses from New York, with star teachers and top students.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>The Theatre, Mirror of the World<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nAfter its premiere in Pompeii, <strong>Marco Martinelli<\/strong> and teenagers from the Neapolitan area \u201cbring back to life\u201d Sophocles\u2019 <em>Antigone<\/em>, while <em>Viaggio in Occidente<\/em> by the <strong>Grande Teatro di Lido Adriano<\/strong> reimagines one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature, involving young people and adults from the cosmopolitan seaside town. <em>Storia del nuovo cognome<\/em> by <strong>Fanny &amp; Alexander<\/strong> is the second chapter reinterpreting the acclaimed bestseller through theatre, music, and comics, while in collaboration with <strong>Le belle bandiere<\/strong>, <em>La bambina inglese<\/em> is a performance by Elena Bucci\u2014who also signs the libretto, dramaturgy and direction\u2014and countertenor Helmar Hauser, with music by Paolo Baioni. <strong>Albe \/ Ravenna Teatro<\/strong> presents <em>LU\u1e62<\/em>, based on the poem by Nevio Spadoni, featuring the voice of Ermanna Montanari and the double bass of Daniele Roccato.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Autumn Trilogy<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nThe Festival returns <strong>from November 13 to 17<\/strong> with the Autumn Trilogy, titled <strong><em>Mozart 1791<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 directed by <strong>Chiara Muti<\/strong>, with <strong>Ottavio Dantone<\/strong> conducting the <strong>Cherubini Orchestra<\/strong> and the <strong>Coro della Cattedrale di Siena Guido Chigi Saracini<\/strong> prepared by Lorenzo Donati \u2014 featuring a new production of <strong><em>La clemenza di Tito<\/em><\/strong>, the original creation <strong><em>L\u2019ultimo incanto<\/em><\/strong> (based on <em>Die Zauberfl\u00f6te<\/em> and Mozart\u2019s final compositions), and the <strong><em>Requiem<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><strong>Presales from Thu 12 February<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<strong>Under 18<\/strong>: 5 Euro if applicable<br \/>\n<strong>Carnet Open<\/strong> (min. 4 events) 15% discount<br \/>\n<strong>Alighieri Theatre Ticket Office<\/strong> ph. +39 (0)544 249244 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravennafestival.org\">www.ravennafestival.org<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eight hundred years after the death of Francis of Assisi, Ravenna Festival dedicates the title of its 37th edition to the&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":6,"featured_media":39661,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[89,60],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-39655","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news-en","category-uncategorized"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
