Claudio Abbado’s longed-for return to Ravenna should have opened the Festival’s 21st edition, but his sudden hospitalization has forced the Maestro to regretfully cancel all his June dates. Wishing him a serene and speedy recovery, Ravenna Festival is glad to welcome the suggestion Abbado himself made in his affectionate message to Cristina Muti: the concert of “his” Orchestra Mozart is confirmed with the same programme (including the Jupiter), and the baton will pass to the hands of a young Venezuelan talent, the Orchestra’s Main Guest Conductor—Diego Matheuz, one of the happiest products of José Antonio Abreu’s well-renowned “Sistema”, which Abbado has been supporting for years.
