A vocation for travelling and travelling as a vocation: in the name of friendship between peoples, of a gesture of love and culture extending beyond all boundaries and bridging all diversity, a Festival embarking “on the vast and open sea” can only end in the heart of the Mediterranean, where everything began: Athens, Greece, where the foundations of our civilization, thought, art and democracy lay. For the people of Greece, who, after years of hardships and struggles, are now gracefully taking control of their own destiny, soloists, choristers and musicians will gather on the slopes of the Acropolis under Riccardo Muti’s generous baton to paint Beethoven’s powerful musical fresco, the anthem of Europe and a true hymn to brotherhood.
