Building on his own “Graham” roots (Martha herself had invited him to join her in the US), Israeli Ohad Naharin has gradually developed a very personal dance language – physical, powerful yet flexible – which qualifies him as one of the most interesting contemporary choreographers. The Batsheva Dance Company – where he had started his training, and of which he has been the Artistic Director since 1990 – is the privileged territory for his experiments, where he pioneered his own new training method. Neither a technique nor a handbook of rules, Gaga encourages dancers to enhance the quality of movement, providing new expressive capabilities to a generation of artists, from both Batsheva and worldwide companies. And providing Naharin with the “human” material for his surprisingly original works.
