The project, based on the analysis of documentary sources on Italian opera collected at the University Departments of Ravenna and Ferrara, proposes a Convention on Italian 18th and 19th century opera. The Convention is open to scholars and theatre producers alike, and
follows in the wake of Ravenna Festival’s project of reviving the opera tradition of the time, serving as a fruitful and useful connection between stage production and historical-critical reflection. This year’s Convention will be dedicated to I due Figaro by Felice Romani and Saverio
Mercadante, composed in Madrid in 1826 and never performed in modern times before the current re-staging by Riccardo Muti.
